Murray, who is 61, was strolling near Sugar Beach in Toronto when he happened upon a woman who was beating a drum decorated with a painted eagle in the scorching heat. He stopped to watch and listen before he took his shot. “I wanted to capture the importance of the movement, the art of the drumming, instead of the person drumming. I loved the colours of the drum,” he recalls. “The person was adding a rhythm to the day.”
