Barbara’s photo, taking at Sunnyside Beach, represents the strength of water and of people facing challenges. “Sometimes you’re only knee-deep; you’re not drowning,” says Barb, who has been enjoying this beach for more than 30 years. She remembers living a middle-class life with her family before she experienced homelessness. “I raised my kids down there. Swimming, biking, roller skating.”
